Skerry’s College Alumni has several prominent members including former
Taoiseach, Jack Lynch; former Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Peter
Barry and former South Kerry TD Breeda Moynihan-Cronin . In 1977, An Taoiseach
Jack Lynch was asked to officiate at the opening of new premises on St.
Patrick’s Hill. As a token of the College’s appreciation, An Taoiseach was
presented with a commemorative piece of fine Irish silver.
In June 2005, shortly after Skerry's College merged with Griffith
College, the opportunity arose to acquire this piece from the estate of the
later Mrs Maririn Lynch, wife of the former Taoiseach. The piece is now on
display in Griffith College Cork, it recognises the long tradition of
educational excellence at Skerry's College and its place in the history of
Cork.
