Graduation 2005 Griffith College Cork Graduation 2005 St. Fin Barre‘s Cathedral Even though the weather was cold and mixed with the odd shower, nothing could dampen the spirits of the graduands of Griffith College Cork (incorporating Skerry‘s College). The 2005 Graduation Ceremoniy took place in St. Fin Barre's Cathedral on Bishop St in the middle of Cork City in its Year of Culture. This year the college was delighted to see over 300 graduands complete their courses and on the day 150 graduands attended ceremonies where they were individually presented with awards by the College‘s Chairman, Mr. Diarmuid Hegarty. The awards presented included the Higher Education & Training Awards Council (HETAC), Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), Limpert‘s Academy of Design, City & Guilds London Institute, JEB Pitman, ISTS and Skerry's Cork Business School. Ms. Karena Maguire, Registrar and Head of Award Management of the Higher Education & Training Awards Council, Cllr Jim Corr, deputising for the Lord Mayor of Cork, were in attendance of the conferring of awards from the above validating bodies on graduands of the college. After the Graduation, a reception was held in the Clarion Hotel where graduands and parents celebrated their success with members of the academic staff. In addition, there were a number of prizes awarded by the faculties to graduands in recognition of special achievements and academic excellence.
Each year HETAC award the Student of The Year Prize, this prize is limited to final year students and is in recognition of academic performance and is intended as a motivation for the recipient to go forward and continue their studies at a higher level. The 2005 HETAC Student of the Year was presented to Ms. Ciara O‘Donovan from the Faculty of Business. Mr. Diarmuid Hegarty, Chairman, Griffith College & Ms. Karena Maguire, Registrar & Head of Awards Management , HETAC presented Ciara with a scroll, medal and cheque. Other student prizes were also presented on the day and they are pictured receiving their awards for best academic achievement.
